Risk management and patient safety are linked. Reducing risk means increasing patient safety by developing a patient safety culture through communication and teamwork. This course provides practice management tools and guidance from the unique systems-based approach of Dr. James Bagian.
This patient safety activitiy helps fulfill the patient safety CME requirement for Part 2 of the Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology Program® (MOCA) of The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA).
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this module, the learner will be able to:
- Identify underlying causes of a breakdown in patient safety
- Describe program elements needed to combat shame and overcome barriers to reporting “close calls”
- Compare your current situation with the guiding principles that lead to a system-based solution to patient safety
- Discover how communication and teamwork can create a safety culture
- Identify gaps and opportunities to creating a systems-based approach to patient safety
