How do I select a topic?
It is important to select a topic that is relevant to your practice. Review patient criteria needed for case evaluations prior to purchase on each PPAI course page. You will need to submit data from 20 patient cases.

What topics are available?
Below are the topics currently available:

How much does a PPAI course cost?
Member cost is $220 and Non-member cost is $290

Is there any other way for me to meet this MOCA^® requirement?

When do I need to take a PPAI course to fulfill my Case Evaluation component of Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology Program (MOCA^®) Part 4?

How is my successful participation in this MOCA^® activity reported to the ABA?
After successful completion of the course, an email notification will automatically be sent to the ABA, the learner and ASA also.

How long does it take to complete a course?
All PPAI courses are designed as three stage performance improvement activities:

Stage 1: Audit, Educate, Compare, Claim credit
Stage 2: Design, Execute a Performance Improvement Plan, Claim credit
Stage 3: Re-Audit, Compare, Reflect, Claim credit 

Each course requires a minimum of 60 days after stage 2 to implement the improvement plan in preparation for the re-audit in stage 3.

How much CME credit can I claim for each PPAI course?
Credit is claimed after each stage with a cumulative total of 20 CME*

• Stage 1: Up to 5 CME
• Stage 2: Up to 5 CME
• Stage 3: Up to 10 CME

.*Fulfillment of the Case Evaluation component of MOCA^® Part 4 requires learners to claim the maximum of 20 CME

Do I need to report my CME to the ABA?
ASA will report all CME to the ABA with the ABA ID number on file for all Members and Non-Members.
*IMPORTANT: If your ABA ID number is missing from our files, you may add it to your Education Center Profile. The ABA ID number must be added before an email notification is sent to the ABA upon course completion. View the Update Profile Tutorial for tips on how to edit your profile.

How is my case data protected?

The PPAI System is maintained by the Anesthesia Quality Institute (AQI), a federally designated Patient Safety Organization (PSO) based in Park Ridge, Illinois. Collection and analysis of data is for the purpose of improving the quality of anesthesia care nationwide. Quality management work of the AQI and the PPAI Steering Committee are protected from discovery by Federal and Illinois state law.

Case information is submitted to PPAI via secure, encrypted transmission to the AQI server. The AQI server is isolated by firewall against outside access. The AQI is prohibited under the terms of our PSO status from ever revealing specific identifying information of any institution, provider or patient.

Is the course compatible on iPADs?
Course content includes flash files which are not compatible at this time with iPADs.

What hardware/software is required to take the course?
Each course uses the following Web technologies: Flash, JavaScript, AJAX, and pop‐up windows. Subscribers need to be sure to set their browsers to allow these technologies to function on their computers before using this program. Adobe Reader is also required.

Can I take the course on any browser?
This program was tested using the following browsers: Internet Explorer 8–9 and Firefox 3.x, on Windows platforms and Firefox 3.x and Safari 3.x–5.x on Macintosh platforms.  Performance on other browsers and/or platforms may vary.
