- This badge was awarded for successfully completing the ultrasound basics portion of the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ (ASA) Diagnostic Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Certificate program. This program teaches POCUS image acquisition and interpretation skills through a rigorous, five-part curriculum. Attainment of the badge for ultrasound basics requires completion of all of the following: (i) completion of a performance improvement plan; (ii) providing evidence of 10 CME/ACGME hours of prior learning in POCUS; (iii) interpretation of 160 ultrasound cases (100 cardiac, 20 lung, 20 gastric, 20 FAST) on the ASA's web-based platform; (iv) submission of a portfolio of studies interpreted (50 cardiac, 30 lung, 30 gastric, 30 FAST) vetted by either a local mentor or ASA faculty; and (v) a passing score on the FAST portion of the curriculum's timed Final Exam.
